Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A query typed into a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the terms and supplies its results. Iowa County Criminal History does not keep its own log or copy of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When a visitor sends an email, the message may be retained long enough to review and answer it. It is kept within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Routine technical records may be created when a page loads. They can include:
- A device's IP address
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- A referring website, when supplied
- The date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure visits, popular pages, and navigation patterns. Analytics providers may combine those measurements into traffic reports. Visitors can block cookies through browser controls, although some functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Collected technical data may be used for a limited set of operational purposes:
- Operating and speeding up the website
- Passing a search to the selected partner service
- Understanding which pages visitors use
- Diagnosing faults and security problems
- Delivering advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Iowa County Criminal History does not maintain or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Iowa County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI Records and Identification Unit, Iowa Department of Corrections, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Iowa Code chapter 692 governs state criminal-history collection and dissemination, while the Iowa Open Records Law in chapter 22 governs public access to government records. Neither law turns this private site into the official custodian. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search tools that appear on some pages. Information entered there is governed by the provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Review those terms before submitting a query because this policy does not control the partner's systems.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Iowa County government, court portals, state agencies, statutes, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Advertising providers may also use their own technology to measure activity across sites; that processing occurs on their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Operational information may be available to:
- Search providers that receive a visitor's query
- Analytics vendors that measure site traffic
- Advertising networks that place page ads
- Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards are applied to collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and this policy does not promise that unauthorized access or another breach can never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, it will be removed after a valid request.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary by residence and the law that applies. A person may be entitled to ask what personal data is held, request a correction, seek deletion, or object to some processing. Iowa Code chapter 22 concerns records held by Iowa government bodies, not private website files, and Iowa Code chapter 692 governs criminal-history data maintained by the state repository rather than visitor analytics here.
- Request access to personal data held about you
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Seek deletion where the law provides it
- Object to eligible forms of processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as services or legal duties change. An updated version becomes available on this page and carries a new effective date.
